The story of 'Dandy Bumz' and ultimately 'The Nappy Boutique'

When Xavier was about 6 months old we made the move from the big smoke, Perth, to the sticks, Dandaragan. Not long after that i met a lovely lady who was using modern cloth nappies on her son.

I was intrigued and asked lots of questions. Then eventually looked up some info on the net and thought, 'i can do that'. I drew up my own pattern and armed with old T shirts and a shower curtain set about making my very own modern cloth nappies. Well, let's just say after proto type 11 i put the development on hold and purchased my very first MCN.

Oh, the joy of getting that parcel in the mail. I have never been so excited! OK, well maybe when my three kids were born, oh, and my wedding day, oh and ... never mind back to the story. They were AIO's and gave me a better insight into how they were made and supposed to work.

So back to the drawing board, this time with proper fabric and better knowledge. After a few weeks i had managed to sew an entire large stash for Xavier and they were working perfectly!

At this point we found out we were expecting Imogen so back to the sewing table for me. I sewed loads of small side snapping nappies for her as i had sewed large side snaps for Xavier and was confident using this pattern.

Then ... i went to book club with the lady who introduced me to cloth. All the ladies were chatting and discussion arose that i made modern cloth nappies and was working on a one size pattern. Then a wonderful thing happened, Dandy Bumz was born. I received my very first orders for Dandy Bumz one size. 6 for a soon to be Grandma and 2 for a soon to be Aunty.

Weeks later i was tearing my hair out as i had promised these nappies but hadn't perfected the pattern yet. Then, it came to me one night and it was just right. My first customers were VERY happy and i have been sewing plenty since.

Along the way i had convinced Russell that MCN were great and that there was a market out there and people love them. After heaps of discussion he finally agreed to me opening my very own store. At first the thought was, I would just make a few to sell. Then an excellent opportunity arose to purchase some poly print PUL at a great price so i decided it was time to open a boutique and what better name than ... 'The Nappy Boutique'.

The plan is to grow the business and to make the very best MCN and accessories available to you at the best prices possible. Being a boutique we will have some exclusive, one of a kind items too.

Enjoy your visit to The Nappy Boutique.
